Jewelries are expensive items. Well, not all, but most of them are. For jewelry sellers, it is very important to protect their collection. This post will offer some information to help you keep your jewelry safe in the Tucson jewelry show.
The first thing you can try is hinged “suitcase” display cases that come with a Plexiglas front. Such cases should be placed flat on a table. Be sure to keep the price tag visible. In an international gem show such as this, you get very little time (roughly 3-5 seconds) to attract attention of customers. Using these display cases and keeping the price tag visible will prevent you from losing that opportunity.
Another technique is to display your collection on boards lined with quilt batting. You can pin the items to the board and allow your customers to see and touch every item. Place the most expensive items in the center of your main display table and make sure that table is elevated so that it can be seen from all angles, no matter where in the booth you are.
Have your neighbor vendors keep an eye on your booth and you watch out for thieves for them. There are people who visit jewelry trade shows with the sole intention of stealing. These people often work in a team which includes a woman and a man. The woman acts like a loud-mouthed buyer to distract the vendor and other customers while her partner steals products. They often carry a large bag. So, beware of customers with large bags.
You can use a black shrink wrap on every item in your display. This way, the items won’t attract the thieves’ attention. Another effective way to restrict thieves’ access to your booth is to rope it off when you go away on a break. If you are trying to protect a particularly precious piece, it would be wise to keep a tracking device in the display case of that item. That way, if the item gets stolen, the police can track down where it is.
